[WATCH] Inside the UFC's Anti-Labor & Anti-Press Culture
UFC President Dana White (L) with his longtime friend & now former US President Donald Trump
I was a guest on the great Left Reckoning show Wednesday evening with hosts David Griscom and Matt Lech. My segment, along with the full show is embedded, below, for you to watch and share.
In our conversation we discuss the rights, or lack thereof, enjoyed by the athlete workers who drive the biggest league of the world’s most exciting and perhaps fastest-growing sports. The UFC, which are the big leagues of the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), is worth many billions of dollars, enjoys worldwide television and streaming distribution, sponsorship of major corporations, yet pays none of its athletes salaries, pensions, offers none of them year-round healthcare coverage, and gives veritably no job security to them while grabbing exclusive rights to their labor in exchange for a revenue share that pales in comparison to what other athletes we watch on networks like ESPN who play in the MLB, NHL, NBA, or NFL, receive.
We discuss why this is on the episode, as well as the battles of working-class labor leaders like Christian Smalls in New York against corporate giant Amazon, and the bad-faith liberal blowback they are receiving for their heroic efforts.
