[VID] Seeing Through War Propaganda
We challenge the conventional narrative of the war in Ukraine on The Propaganda Report podcast
On Monday The Revolutionary Blackout Network debuted its newest show, The Propaganda Report, and I was fortunate enough to join journalist Danny Haiphong as a guest analyst on the episode, hosted by Compton Jay. During the show the three of us interrogate conventional narratives surrounding the war in Ukraine, using historical context to add layers to the often superficial analyses given about the conflict by corporate media.
“It’s important to historicize it, to provide context,” I began, during the episode.
We examine coverage of the war down to the word-level, highlighting the multiple utilities of the verbiage used by corporate media, and explaining the connections of said media companies to the war-profiteering weapons manufacturing industry.
“Something like ‘invasion’ is easily reducible and connected to all sorts of really superficial tropes that we’re really well-trained in the United States to accept. Not only us, but our parents, and probably our grandparents as well. In this particular case with Russia and the U.S.", we continue.
“One side is a bad-faith actor, the other side is a good-faith actor, one side is evil and uniquely power-hungry, and unstable, just unpredictable and in opposition to democracy. Whereas the other side is supposed to be pure as the driven snow, inherently good - although we might make some honest mistakes with regards to policy, and fundamentally a defender of democracy. That is the picture the corporate media is trying to paint, here, as they always do. The good side being the true hegemonic force in the world, still at this point, the United States.”
