Secret Files Claim CIA Workers Sexually Abused Children...
...yet virtually no one has been prosecuted
The United States uses its intelligence agency the CIA to spy on foes and friends alike, torture, murder, and overthrow democracies. The agency’s own records also show an epidemic of child abuse committed by its workers, according to reporting from Buzzfeed News.
To make matters worse, the rest of the U.S. system appears to be complicit in this abuse as it has refused to prosecute most of these CIA workers, and have instead let the CIA handle things internally, and quietly.
“Over the past 14 years, the Central Intelligence Agency has secretly amassed credible evidence that at least 10 of its employees and contractors committed sexual crimes involving children. Though most of these cases were referred to US attorneys for prosecution, only one of the individuals was ever charged with a crime. Prosecutors sent the rest of the cases back to the CIA to handle internally, meaning few faced any consequences beyond the possible loss of their jobs and security clearances,” Buzzfeed reports.
“That marks a striking deviation from how sex crimes involving children have been handled at other federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Administration. CIA insiders say the agency resists prosecution of its staff for fear the cases will reveal state secrets.”
The details of the abuse by CIA workers is grisly, and the apparent indifference to the crimes against children is remarkable. Though finding cause to stop working with some of their employees on account of their abuse of children, the CIA’s record of punishing their workers for said abuse is muddied, at best, and thus far virtually none of them have faced legal consequences for victimizing children.
Sadly, even a summary look at the work of American intelligence makes it seem possible that facilitating abuse of children is a feature of their work, as they perpetually seek leverage over any number of individuals and institutions, and not a bug. “One employee had sexual contact with a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old. He was fired. A second employee purchased three sexually explicit videos of young girls, filmed by their mothers. He resigned,” Buzzfeed details.
“A third employee estimated that he had viewed up to 1,400 sexually abusive images of children while on agency assignments. The records do not say what action, if any, the CIA took against him. A contractor who arranged for sex with an undercover FBI agent posing as a child had his contract revoked.”
